  • Mr. R. P. Goenka, Chairman Emeritus of RPG Enterprises, receives the Lifetime Achievement Award from All India Management Association in New Delhi.

  • Prasun Chatterjee, an Indian environmental engineering, student whose reasearch has contributed to a new way of detecting toxic and copper in water, wins one of the highest US research honours, the 2010 Ellen Gonter environmental Chemistry Award, from the American Chemical Society.

  • Home Minister Mr. P Chidambaram gives away gallantry medals to 56 CRPF personnel at a ceremony in New Delhi.

  • British Indian author Mr. Rana Dasgupta wins the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for 2010 for his epic tale ‘Solo’ set in communist and post communist Bulgaria. Australian author Ms. Glenda guest’s ‘Siddon Rock’ is adjudged the Best First Book.

  • Explosive Indian opener Virender Sehwag is adjudged the ‘Wisden Cricketer of the Year’ for the second time in a row; he overcomes competition from Andrew Strauss of England and Tillakartne Delshan of Sri Lanka.

  • Noted Hindi writer Hrishikesh Sulabh is chosen for the International Indu Sharma Katha Samman for 2010 for his story collection Vasant ke Hatyare.

  • The IPL Awards Night is held in Mumbai, Sachin Tendulkar is named the Best Batsman and Pragyan Ojha bags the Best Bowler award. A.B. de Villiers is named Best Fielder, Kieron Pollard is named for Best Debut Performance, Jacques Kallis wins the most consistent Performance award.

  • The Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2010 is held in Mumbai. Ms. Manasvi Mamgai of Mumbai is adjudged Miss India World, Bangaluru girl Ms. Nicole Faria is named Miss India Earth; Ms. Neha Hinge of Pune wins the miss India International crown.

  • British footballer Wayne Rooney is voted the English Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year. Earlier, he had also won the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the year award as well.

Chief Justice Of India.

The 38th Chief Justice of India.

Mr. Justice Sarosh Homi Kapadia has been appointed the Chief Justice of India, who succeeds Mr. Justice K. G. Baladrishnan from May 12, 2010. He is the 38th Chief Justice of India and and the first individual to hold the post, who was born fter independence. He will have a tenure of 2 years and 4 months. Born on Septemer 29, 1947, he enrolled as an Advocate on September 10, 1974. He practised in the Bombay High Court, both on Origianl Side and Appellate Side in Suits, Letters Patent Appeals, Writs, matters under Negotiable Instruments Act, detention matters, matters under Bombay Rent Act, matters under Bombay Municipal Corporation Act and matter under Maharashtra Land Revenue Code etc. Mr. Justice S. H. Kapadia was appointed as an additional Judge of the Bombay High Court in 1991. Two years later, he was appointedas a Permaent Judge of the Bombay High Court. In 1999, he was appointed as a Judge of the special court. Thereafter , he was appointed as the Chief Justice of Uttaranchal High Court on August 5, 2003. The same year, he was elevated to the Bench of Supreme Court on December 18. Mr. Justice Kapadia takes keeen interest in Economics, Pulic Finance, Theoretical Physics, and Hindu and Buddhist Philosophies. He will retire on September 29, 2012.
