1. Former Chief Justice K. G. Balakrishnan takes over as the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission.

2. In the largest ever telecom takeover by an Indian firm, Bharti Airtel completes a deal to buy out Kuwait-based zain Telecom’s African business for 10.7 billion dollor.

3.SBI chariman Mr. O. P. Bhatt is elected the new Chairman of the Indian Banks Association for 2010-2011.

4. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and visiting Sri Lankan President Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa hold an important meeting in New Delhi, at the meeting the two sides decide to extend their cooperation to areas such as defence space and energy securitybesides strengthening the existing bonds through restoration fo transport links, setting up additional consulates and initiating cooperation in the power sector.

5. To encourage cultivation of pulses, the Centre increases the minimum support prices by up to 33%.

6. The Union Cabinet approves the mid-term appraisal of the 11th Five Year Plan (2007 – 12) projecting a scale-down in average growth from 9 percentage targeted initially to 8.1 percent during the five-year period.

7. The 16 day auction of the Broadband Wireless Spectrum (BWA) ends; through the auction, the Centre raises Rs. 38617 crore. Internet service provider infotel emerges as the sole pan-India licence winner in the auction.

8. The Central Government approves capital infusion of Rs. 6,211 crore in five public sector banks IDBI, Central Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, UCO Bank and Union Bank of India.

9. India’s anti tank missile Nag is successfully test fires; the missile proves its capability of destroying a target at a range of 500 m, hitting a moving object in 3.2 seconds.

10. In a report, the Centre says that the rate of inflation touched 10.16 percent in May 2010, the highest in the last 19 months.

11. In a major disinvestment initiative, the Union Cabinet gives its approval to disinvestment of 10 percent each in Coal India Ltd. and Hindustan Copper Ltd. giving a big push to its agends to raise Rs. 40,000 crore through big ticket disinvestment in the 2010-11 fiscal.

12.The central Government announces an across the board hike in fuel prices petrol by Rs. 3.50  a litre, diesel by Rs. 2 a litre, kerosene by Rs 3 a litre and LPG by Rs. 35 a cylinder. The government decides to completely deregulate petrol, which will now be linked to international crude prices.

13. The commonwealth Games baton receives a grand welcome on entering India from pakistan, through the attari Wagah border.

India is granted observer status on the board of the Thirty Metre Telscope prohect, the next generation astronomical observatory that will be located on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, USA.

14. Reliance Communication and its subsidiary, Reliance Infratel, enter into a Rs. 50,000 crore deal with GTL Infrastructure to create the World’s largest independent telecom infrastructure company that will be neither owned nor controlled by a telecom operator.

15. India and Canada sign a civil nuclear cooperation agreement; the agreement is signed in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Canadian Counterpart Mrs. Stephen Harper in Toronto Canada.

16. The Indian Navy inducts two water propelled fast attack craft, INS Cankarso and INS Kondul, at a ceremony in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The two ships will shore up the security of the country’s coastline.

17. A report released by the Centre reveals that the India’s current account deficits reflecting its position in trade and investment with other nations, rose to 2.9 percent of GDP in 2009-10 against 2.4 percent a year ago.

18. The National Rural Health Mission authorities suggest the introduction of a rural cadre of healthcare workers, saying tht clinical care providers with a shorter duration of training are a competent alternative to physicians.

19.Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee holds an important meeting with IS secretary of State Ms. Hillary Clinton in Washington, USA, the two discussbilateral relations, including economic ties.
